The Most Traumatic/Emotion Read This Year

March 1, 2016 by Andrea Krieter 2 Comments

Rating: 5/5

This book! Oh god, this book is a serious contender for number 1 in my heart. I think fangirl might beat it by a smidge because of its realistic nature, but this book oh my heart… my heart!

Okay, I promise to try to write coherent thoughts, but this book kind of ruined me and I will never be the same. Sorry for the melodrama, but it is true!

Reading Thoughts:

I’ve made it to page 123 and I got to say I really love the format of this. Even though we don’t have the whole picture I really like it. Does anyone else feel like their a main character of star wars while they read? I certainly do.

Kady is so wonderful and I love her already. She is awesome and the kind of female role model I want every young girl and boy to know about. I love how she’s a short girl who is this super badass hacker! It’s just so awesome! :D

Ezra is growing on me. That rose message he made was super cute. I’m curious to see what will happen to the relationship thing they have going on. I’m not sure what else to really call it. T-T

You know what would be cool? If we got a perspective from the AI throughout the book. However that could totally give too much away. I think AIDAN is going rogue or at least in the process of it. Loved the Hal reference. Can’t wait to see what happens next!

  1. Damn this has picked up speed in lightyears. Some crazy stuff is happening and I’m having trouble processing everything. This is ridiculous, but I love it all the same!

I hate Torrence. I fucking hate him so much. I know he’s military and everything and I can respect that. However, it’s like he’s lost all his humanity and maybe he has. I don’t like the decisions he’s made or anything. Gah! Everything is going to shit!

On the other hand I have major respect and awe for Lt McCall and Captain Chau. What they’ve been through is terrible. Oh boy. I don’t even know how else to describe how I feel about what has happened to each of them. *Cries internally*

I really like Dorian. He reminds me of a more nerdy version of Prince Dorian from Throne of glass. Precious little cinnamon roll! :)
That’s all for now. Over.

Pausing for the night at 362 and I just don’t know what to say right now. This book has put me through such emotional stress in the past three hours that I don’t know how to function like a normal human being. There’s too many feels and I can’t with AIDAN. I’m so done with AIDAN.

Summary: This is one of the most intense books I’ve ever read. Within the first 15 pages, the planet is invaded. The main characters, who have recently broken up, band together and fight to make it onto an evac shuttle, but they are separated since Ezra was wounded during the journey to the shuttles. The shuttles take off and have been badly damaged so they can’t jump through hyperspace to get help. To make matters worse, the Lincoln (AKA Evil ship that’s chasing them) is in pursuit and is going to catch up to them. Queue the countdowns! If you think this is the whole plot, well you are dead wrong, we still have to throw in the complicated AI and a biological plague that basically turns people into strange zombie things. Kady has a major role as a computer hacker, and she unearths a huge problem with the AI and ships. Plus, her and Ezra are reconnecting throughout the whole story. Talk about a lot going on and I didn’t even cover all of it. Oh, forgot to mention that this is told from multiple perspectives, including the AI!

More: I loved this book! Fell head over heels for this book. The format was probably the coolest thing about it. This novel is told through hacked IM feeds, emails, chat logs and video surveillance, as well as super cool images. The fight scenes are fantastic! You have to see this to believe it. They are artfully created, I felt like I was in star wars, flying one of those tie-fighter thingies.

Another reason I loved this book was Kady. She was short, intelligent and plain badass! She is what I want to see in more female roles, a girl who knows what she’s doing and willing to sacrifice for what she believes is right. Also, she wasn’t a bitch about it. She had her moments when she was angry or upset, but she wasn’t cold hearted. She could still express herself and be kind. Her relationship with Ezra isn’t the easiest thing ever. She doesn’t immediately go back to him, just because of the invasion. It felt realistic that way, she still loved him, but couldn’t jump right back on the relationship train. I liked that it was a slow transition. The slow burn is wonderful and cries forever at the same time.

There were some bad things about the book, not necessarily bad writing or anything terrible like that. But events would happen and I would literally scream at the book or be tempted to throw it across my living room. Tip: don’t read this book at night, because you might wake up everyone in your household with your emotions and whatnot.

All in all, definitely try this book out, especially if you are any kind of Sci-fi or Science-Fantasy fan. It is really incredibly awesome and I need Gemina now!! I would suggest getting a physical copy, because it wouldn’t be the same as an ebook.

Wow. I don’t think I have the constitution for this book. Sounds amazing, but it also sounds like I’d need therapy afterwards.

I would encourage you to try it! I think it’s worth it. But you might want your favorite happy and light book next to you for after you read this.
