I basically fell in love with this book as soon as I saw its cover. As a kid, I had very well-worn copies of Dragonology and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them that are probably to blame for my love of fictional memoirs, histories, and the like from fantastical settings. As such, I was pretty stoked about this book, and committed to it from the start.
Imagine my pleasant surprise when it exceeded even my own very biased expectations.
I enjoy this series so much. The style is engaging and interesting, Like my beloved Jane Austen novels. And the fantasy twist, populated with dragons, gives it a something extra I didn’t even know I needed. The third book, Voyage of the Basilisk, is my favorite so far, and I’m about to read the fourth book. I think if you enjoyed this book, you’ll really like the rest of the series. Great review!
Thanks! I’ve since read the second book, and I can’t wait to finish the series! I tore through the first two, and I’m dreading the wait for the 5th book next year. One nice thing about the way these are written though is that she can keep the series going for a while, which just leaves me looking forward to future books!
