You want a revolution, I want a revelation

May 16, 2016 by baxlala 6 Comments

cressSo this is definitely my favorite of the three Lunar Chronicles novels I’ve read so far (spoiler alert: I started reading Winter, got bored, started reading something else, and then the book was due back at the library, so I still haven’t finished the series. I’m not sure when I’ll get around to it, I just checked out SO MANY NEW BOOKS.) Anyway. Cress!

Like Cinder and Scarlet before it, Cress is based on a fairy tale. In this case, Rapunzel, which has always been one of my favorites. Our Rapunzel, Cress, is a Lunar “shell” being kept in an orbiting satellite above Earth by one of Queen Levana’s BFFs, Sybil. Sybil uses Cress’s remarkable computer skills to keep tabs on things on Earth, and, as Sybil’s hacker lackey, Cress is supposed to be tracking down Cinder and her band of rebels (I just really like saying band of rebels, don’t you?) using her computer skills. Cress, however, has been helping Cinder for a few reasons, namely A) she respects Cinder’s ability to get herself out of trouble and B) Cress has a huge monstro crush on Captain Thorne, he of the amazing Rampion ship and the dreamy eyes. She’s managed to dig up as much information as she could on Thorne, and even managed to rewrite his most scoundrel-y moments so he comes off as an upstanding young man. Which…we know isn’t true, at least in the past, but maybe he’ll change for Cress? That always happens, right? Bad boys change their ways for the women who love them?

This is what Cress is hoping for anyway, even before they meet, something she believes was destined to happen.

Anyway. Obviously, Cress meets up with the rest of the gang, but I won’t say why or how. There are lots of complications, and people are put in MORTAL PERIL, and everyone has a lot of feelings. Even though this whole “good girl falls for scoundrel ” thing has been done to death, I can’t help but love it because STAR WARS.

I found myself super disinterested in Scarlet and Wolf, but mostly Wolf because he has the personality of one of the tomatoes he loves so much. I’m also supremely disinterested in Cinder and Kai’s relationship, probably because Kai has the personality of a slightly more interesting tomato.

My favorite continues to be Iko.

Anyway. This series is quite enjoyable but I’m a bit nervous to read (and finish, this time) Winter. If reviews on Goodreads are any indication, I may wind up disappointed in the series as a whole. Until then, however, I’ll live in ignorant bliss which is always super fun.

This was definitely my favorite of the series. I was very disappointed in the last book. I’ll be interested to see what you think about it.

Knowing that you were disappointed just moved it to the very bottom of my list. Hee.

No, don’t! I’ve been reading a really good string of books lately and don’t want to jinx it.

I had to make a spreadsheet of my reviews and the Hamilton lyrics I’ve already used because I started to get confused about which I’d used already.
