I forgot how much I liked Lucas… Book 9 of the Prey series

August 1, 2016 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Secret Prey
So this is book 9 of a series I accidentally started on like book 24 or something. After I read book 24 (or whatever it was – I guess I could go back into my CBR 7 history and check, but it’s Monday, so no), I went back and started at book 1. Then I got caught up in other stuff, and forgot entirely about the prey series. My bad. Like I say in the title, I forgot how much I like Lucas Davenport, the main character of the series. It’s sometime funny to me, because I’m ABSOLUTELY a feminist, but I love love love James Bond, and Lucas Davenport. Lucas isn’t misogynistic at all, but he does whore around a little bit. He also uses his attractiveness sometimes to get what he wants. That’s probably just equal opportunity sexy though.

Anyway, this book starts out with a little hunting party going out to hunt for deer up in the woods in Minnesota. The president of the bank gets shot and killed, and the rest of the story is trying to figure out who killed him. There are multiple murders investigated throughout (like 8 or 9 maybe), and you don’t really know for sure who committed them, or if only one person committed them, until the murderer actually confesses (to us, not to the police) to some, and we see the forensic evidence for some other ones.

Lucas is getting over his depression related to when his former fiance (Weather) left him after a scary shootout in Book 8. He finds a new lady to keep his bed warm, and she’s actually pretty cool, and very independent. This was classic Lucas, which is just how I like him!

I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too! View kfishgirl's reviews»
