Sweet and fun fairytale update

September 18, 2016 by maydays 1 Comment

Many of you have recommended this romance to me as someone who has trouble loving romances.  This was really sweet and I thorougly enjoyed it.

It’s been reviewed here at CBR a zillion times, but this is a Cinderella retelling. Sophie Beckett is our principled and kind heroine, a blow-by of an earl,  forced into servitude by an evil stepmother and unloving stepsisters.  When she sneaks into a masquerade ball, she meets and falls in love with Benedict Bridgerton, but leaves before revealing her identity.  Take away the singing mice and add a potential mother-in-law as fairy godmother, and you have a very romantic and well-developed familiar story.

I really enjoyed the development of each character, which helped when you reach those inevitable “JUST SAY WHAT YOU’RE THINKING!” moments so common in romances.  There was humor and there were strong female characters.

I believe this is the third book in Quinn’s Bridgerton series, but I was able to understand the family dynamics without having read any of the other books.

Thanks CBR romance crew!  This was a winner.

This was the first new romance (as opposed to my old collection) I read when I dove back into the genre. I loved it SO MUCH and highly recommend proceeding directly to Colin’s book. I go back and forth on which is my favourite. Hyacinth’s book is a lot of fun, too. I have a list –
