I can’t stop reading this book!

December 18, 2016 by kfishgirl 5 Comments

I’ve got my last 2 books picked out. They’ll be #51 and #52 for my first ever full Cannonball. I made it halfway last year, and unless I’m attacked by an acid shooting squid and I go blind in the next two weeks, I’ll hit my first full Cannonball. I’m really excited, because it feels like a cool accomplishment. Anyway, here are my last two books, lines up on my counter, waiting to be conquered:

I’m finishing with The BFG, because my 6 year old niece and my brother in law  (her dad) loved it. She recommended it to me after we all watched the movie together. I trust her judgement. Anyway, this review is for #51, my penultimate book, Before the Fall…

This is another book that someone somewhere recommended to me. I can’t remember who or where though. I put it on hold at the library, picked it up, and renewed it twice without ever opening it. I’m not sure what kept me away, but screw whatever it was because this book rocks. It’s one of those books that you can’t put down. I’ve only stopped reading it in the past few days to sleep. The author is the head writer on Fargo, which I don’t technically watch, but it’s on my list.

The story is about a plane crash, but there’s so much more embedded in the book than just the crash. There’s at least one hero, more than one bad guy, and lots and lots of money.

One of the things I really like about this book (aside from the mystery) is how each character is individually fleshed out. (BTW, I hate the phrase fleshed out) Each person involved in the crash or its aftermath is an actual person. The artist sees the world very differently than the engineer. The flight attendant has a real existence outside of the plane. These parts are so good that I find myself forgetting that there’s a mystery to be solved.

So, to sum it all up – This is one of the best books I’ve read in  a long time.

I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too! View kfishgirl's reviews»

I’m so excited for your almost Cannonball. Here’s hoping you have no sight, hand, or wifi access catastrophes for the next two weeks.

Yay for your almost Cannonball. You can do it, I’m sure. I managed to get a lot of reviewing done even with a broken arm last year, worst case scenario, in case of injury and when I was concussed, I survived and was entertained thanks to audio books. Obviously, I hope you stay safe and that nothing bad of any kind befalls you, but worst case scenario, get someone to read you the book and dictate your final review to someone who types for you. You will reach your 52nd review, no matter what!

This book sounds so good. It’s already on my TBR list. I’ll move it up further, maybe read it in January.

First, sending out thoughts and prayers for no acid shooting squids.

Second, I’ve now double checked that this book is already on the list for next year. An oversight now corrected, you’ve reminded me how much I want to read this, particularly considering my affection for the TV Fargo.

Third, congrats on being so close! It is a fun accomplishment.

Before The Fall was my lucky #103! No squids attacked me after finishing it so you should be in good shape. Excellent book and congrats to being so close
