Cleaning up Cthulu

The Laundry Files had been recommended to me as a series before, and this time it was a book shop employee pushing them, so I picked it up.

The book took me about two weeks to read. I carried it to and from work, and always found a reason to read something else. (Though the news these days is very distracting..) Normally I read much faster than that!

The book is a mix of an old school spy novel (he describes his influences as Len Deighton), mixed with Cthulu world, mixed with some entertainingly snarky observations, like a description of Wagamama’s that made me stop and send screenshots to my friends, mixed with very technical computer references that are just beyond me.

I finished it yesterday, and am a bit meh. I think it was too much – I get the lead character is a hacker turned secret agent, but there were a bit too many in-references to those type of books/knowledge. I’m sure that if spy novels, computer nerdery or Cthulu is your jam then this is PERFECT for you, so i’m trying not to spoil it.
