Scrappy Little Memoir

January 3, 2017 by Beth Ellen 3 Comments

I don’t remember where I first saw Anna Kendrick. It very well might have been Twilight. But ever since Up in the Air we are excellent terms. And I hear from many she has a delightful social media presence, but honestly: I can’t be bothered to keep up with any of it. I am not now, nor ever have been hip, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy watching Anna Kendrick in movies. So I learned more about her.

Ms. Kendrick covers her life up till the current. She was a little girl with a big dream, and parents willing to help make that happen. From growing up in Maine, to driving down to New York for auditions, getting cast in a Broadway musical, and then out to LA and beyond. She hits on many points throughout her career, and covers it with all with charm mostly.

Ms. Kendrick is snappy, witty, and bitingly honest with most of her life. I enjoyed her views on child actors and the LA “scene” specifically. As someone who lived in Los Angeles for a time, and used to go out to some of the sorts of places she describes I can tell you. That sh*t is accurate. And it did leave me slightly nostalgic for the good I guess old days. Her continued insistence that she was so weird is the only thing I found grating after a while, as we’re all weird. You don’t need to keep telling me.

Anywho if you like celebrity memoirs this one was pretty fun. I laughed, and was highly entertained for a couple of commutes during that last miserable week of the year working. Huzzah for fun audiobooks on long commutes!

At least it was entertaining. She still bugs me endlessly!

She still strikes me as that perfect privileged girl that you want to hate because you’re jealous of how wonderful she is… but she’s just so damn nice that you can’t hate her for long.

I’m still not sure of how “nice” she actually is. Not that it bothers me, as I’m not particularly “nice” either. I knew nothing about her pre-book, and now I know more, but unlike Lauren Graham I don’t feel the urge to try to make her my bff.
