The Core of the Disturbance

March 9, 2017 by vel veeter Leave a Comment

The title of my post is Google Translate’s translation for the Spanish language title for this book. It’s a much cooler title and doesn’t allow for all the annoying working of the title into reviews for this novel. Oh this book reads like a fever dream, you say? Isn’t the title…so like you’re not being clever by saying that, you’re literally just repeating the title of the book.

My favorite part of the scarlet letter is the scarlet letter; I guess I will forever wear my love for this books like a………scarlet…………………..letter.

Anyway, I think this book is quite possibly nonsense. I am fairly smart and I have read a lot of books, but this felt like nothing to me. There was kind of a plot and kind of a point, but it felt like someone who was marketable put together 180 pages of stream of consciousness down on paper and someone’s like….oh I can sell this.

It’s weird….it’s surreal….it’s spooky in a lot of ways. But so is an old hat on a coat rack in the dark.

Really I would have liked this more if it had been a story instead of a novel…..if it had a break at some point….and if they had just allowed the actual title to be the actual title. I am gonna be honest….I got another book out of the library today that also has a bad title….or more so it borrows a title from a great album, but was also used by a really terrible movie, but knock it off with the cliched titles would you.

Also, I hate dreams in literature, so I was never going to be into this one.

I want to read more older things and British things this year, and some that are both. Oh and I’ll probably end up reading a bunch of Italian and French writers this year too. I think. View vel veeter's reviews»
