Not sure if it was a *good* book, but I definitely got hooked by it

April 25, 2017 by badkittyuno 1 Comment

Quite a few of y’all have reviewed this one already, so here I am to throw in my two cents. This is the book where the main couple, Anne and Marco, spend the evening at their neighbors’  house for a dinner party while leaving their six month old daughter behind in a crib with the baby monitor on. They agree to check on her every 30 minutes all night and everything seems fine. Then when they leave at the very end of the night she’s missing.

So that’s the basic premise and they get it over with pretty quick. The question from then on is who did it and who can you trust. The author allows us to see into most of the characters’ minds but in a limited way so it really makes it difficult to guess what’s going to happen. I will admit that I spoiled myself on whoever posted the last review because I wanted to know if the kid was going to be okay. So I knew who the kidnapper was, but I don’t think I would have guessed it had I not already known. And even knowing whodunit — there’s still a lot more to unpack here. It is one of those books that’s filled with so many twists and turns that it starts to feel overdramatic, but you can’t put it down. It remains entertaining throughout, and I did enjoy seeing quite a few characters get their just desserts. I listened to this as an audiobook and it was a good way to spend a few hours in the car.

Your title pretty well sums up my thoughts on the book.
