I stand corrected af.

June 19, 2017 by Blingle Bells 4 Comments

Chrissy Teigen really is an absolute gift to the world, isn’t she? I’m really late to the party on that one. At some point I realized that I always click posts about her on any blog I follow despite having no special interest in her career or her husband John Legend’s. She just gradually floated into my consciousness as a delightful Twitter personality, but…I’m not even on Twitter. It was a weird situation.

So when I saw Cravings here and there, well-reviewed, I figured why not. But I had very low expectations. I have an extreme disinterest in celebrity memoirs and seriously doubted that this would really stand on its own as a cookbook. Maybe it’s shitty of me but surely I’m not the only one who thought, she’s a successful model, it’s literally her job not to eat, so could she possibly be cooking nearly enough to warrant a cookbook? Never trust a skinny chef and all that. Probably a vanity project but sure, why not.

Well, I am a moron and I stand corrected af. Cravings is amazing. It has 1,201 Amazon reviews and 5 stars. Not 4.5 5 – and it deserves every last one. What could you want in a cookbook? Well, I want recipes that I’d actually cook – check. A book without 15 novelty ingredients per recipe – check. Gooorggeooous pictures that make me hungry – check, check, check, check. Blurbs that might make me interested in trying something I wouldn’t normally – cheeeccckkkk.

I read this a couple weeks ago but I didn’t want to actually review it until I’d road-tested at least one recipe. Well, I made the Dutch Baby Pancake this morning for my Father’s Day brunch and it was a freaking masterpiece. So there you have it. Don’t be dumb like I was about this book.

I have a handful of her recipes in my rotation and they are always a crowd pleaser. Her broccoli ramen salad is amazing.
