You’ve Got DMs

Someone, who I am too lazy to go back and give credit to- sorry, wrote a review about Alex, Approximately and compared it to You Got Mail which instantly attracted my Meg Ryan/ Tom Hanks loving self.

This is an adorable YA that is too quirky to be real life but not quite as ridiculous as some of the other books I’ve read recently from the same genre. Bailey has been chatting with a boy, who goes by Alex online, in a film lovers forum. “Alex” keeps asking Bailey to visit her father in California where he lives coincidentally in Alex’s hometown, so they can meet each other in person. Bailey’s been hiding a secret from Alex though; she is moving in with her father at the beginning of the summer. Bailey’s plan is to find Alex without letting him know it’s her, she goes by Mink online, to see if they have the same spark in person that they have online.

Bailey gets a job at a quirky museum where she befriends her ticket box coworker, Grace, and makes immediate enemies with a security guard, a teenage surfer named Porter. As she gets to know Porter better she begins to have feelings for him, pushing her plans to find Alex to the side, which complicates her relationship with her father and Grace. If you’ve ever read a book or seen movie before you know how this one ends but Bennett wrote a charming story with pretty well rounded teenage characters that John Green fans will probably enjoy!

I suspect the person you’re referring to is me, I think I’m the only one who’s previously reviewed this for CBR. I’m not the only one to draw the comparison, I’ve seen it in several reviews – hence me doing it too.

Glad you liked the book, I thought it was really sweet and will absolutely be checking out more of Jenn Bennett’s books
