I Swoop in Like an Ethically Diverse Knight

July 4, 2017 by emmalita Leave a Comment

Joe Kelly’s Deadpool isn’t my favorite Deadpool. He comes after Duggan and Posnehr’s Deadpool and after Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool, but any Deadpool is pretty great. Especially when he’s making Spider-Man nuts with his bromance.

Deadpool and Spider-Man are just hanging around. The Merc with the Mouth is mouthing off and Spidey wishes he would just shut up. Naturally Deadpool got Spider-Man into some kind of mess, because no one goes anywhere willingly with Wade Wilson. So now they are hanging upside down and being threatened with eternal suffering by Dormamu. And Deadpool is threatening Spidey with a boner.

Deadpool keeps manufacturing reasons for Spider-Man to team up with him. Deadpool has always wanted to be friends (Spider-Man is on his five freebies list). Spider-Man quit the Avengers because he hated Deadpool that much. As they move towards a friendship, their secrets get in the way.

There are some funny moments. It’s always entertaining to see other superheroes in Deadpool’s world. There’s a pretty great scene with the new Thor, a succubus, Spidey and Deadpool.

Duggan and Posehn’s Deadpool isn’t all that different from Kelly’s Deadpool, but I think Duggan and Posehn’s Deadpool is smarter and has more heart. Kelly’s Deadpool is wiley, but he gets tricked into murdering someone. Duggan and Posehn’s Deadpool might have murdered the same character, but probably to draw out Patient Zero. There were a lot of moving parts, and they didn’t all quite gel. I think Kelly’s Deadpool is less purposeful in his crazy. The quips were good. I enjoyed Spidey and Deadpools’s night out. The villains goals don’t really make sense to me, but I guess I have to read the second volume for that.
