Keep Quiet

July 1, 2017 by Ealbrecht Leave a Comment

Jake’s son Ryan is growing up before his eyes and he doesn’t have the close relationship with him that he wishes that he had. Part of that is his own fault, he’s been busy with the business he started after losing his job. One night, Jake’s wife Pam tells Jake to go pick up their son from the movies, hoping that spending some unexpected time together will help with their relationship.

This is where everything goes wrong. Trying to be the “fun dad” Jake agrees to Ryan’s request to drive part of the way home, he does have his permit and is only a month away from getting his license. Even though it is against the law for Ryan to be driving after 11 at night, even with a parent in the car, Jake agrees. The road is rarely used at this time of day.

They begin their journey home, with Ryan driving, and a conversation begins. Suddenly they hit something. Getting out of the car, they see that they hit a jogger. Jake makes a decision to protect his son, and both of them are wrapped up in lies. Will their secret get out?

I really enjoyed this book, told from Jake’s perspective. It was a quick read for me, and I my guess as to how the book would end was only partially correct.
