A quaint little murder mystery, but did anyone actually get murdered?

Ok so this was another one of my random pickups at the library.  It had death in the title, so I figured I’d like it.  I think I did?  It was an audiobook, so the fact that it felt like I was being read to by a little old lady really soothed me.  No offense to Cynthia Darlow, I have no idea how old she is, but she sounded to me like a little old lady.  I mean that in the best way possible.  This was kind of a story about two middle aged women and their nosiness.

Hope and Maggie go up to an obscure town in Maine for a little vacation.  Hope’s son is the sheriff of the town, and they’re a little estranged.  They stay at a pretty quaint sounding Inn, and participate in a cooking class for a week.  Two women end up coming in late and forcing their way into the class.  They’re with a big brutish man named Alexander.  He eventually dies under mysterious circumstances.  His death is the “did anyone actually get murdered” part of my title.

We learn much about the myriad of characters staying at the Inn, and somehow multiple people have motives.  There’s also the suicide death of Alex’s daughter that happens just days prior to his death to contend with.  I like the way this book wrapped it all up.  It seemed plausible, and yet still mysterious.  Like I said, I’m pretty sure I liked this book, but it wasn’t a scary or suspenseful book at all.  I’m thinking that’s probably ok for something you listen to in the car!  Nothing made me feel like driving off the road or swerving into traffic!
