“And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids…”

September 22, 2017 by Caitycat 1 Comment

I was a huge fan of Scooby Doo as a child. I loved the dog, the mystery solving, and Daphne’s groovy purple dress and shoes. I’m pretty sure that I watched any and every version of Scooby Doo that was available. I saw Scooby Apocalypse available through my library website, so I figured I would give it a shot.

Scooby Apocalypse offers a hardcore version of our beloved characters. Shaggy works at an underground lab training the enhanced smart dogs. His favorite among them is Scooby, who is seen as a failure because his intelligence is only at toddler levels. The two often leave the facility to get snacks. While out one day, they run into a strange meeting in the desert.

Velma is a scientist at the same lab. She worked with a group of scientists on a project to release nanobots into the population. Everyone in the world was infected with them. She thought the intent was to make everyone more peaceful, but it was really to control them. Velma decides to leak the project to the media, so she contacts a reporter.

Said reporter is Daphne, who brings along her cameraman Fred. She hosts a supernatural show on the Knitting Channel. Daphne doesn’t believe Velma, so Velma takes them, along with Scooby and Shaggy, back to the lab. They are in the safe zone when an alarm goes off. Somehow, the nanobots were activated. People are transformed into monsters and start attacking other people and each other. The Scooby gang take an experimental vehicle known as the Mystery Machine to try to find out what happened to the world, and to find a way to stop it.

I think I would love the hell out of this…I’ll have to give it a shot.
