Another Atwood!

October 3, 2017 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I think one of the Fug Girls (gofugyourself.com) recommended this book in a discussion of some sort.  As a seasoned Atwood reader, I jumped on it.  I got the audiobook version of this, which I 100000% recommend you get if you’re going to read this book.  It’s a story, but also a retelling of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.  The audiobook actually performs the play.  I can’t imagine how much less enjoyable it’d be if I had to perform everything in my head.  It would probably still be good though.

Anyway, I really liked this book.  Also, it was nice and short at only eight hours.  I also got Cat’s Eye from the library, and that CD case looks to be at least twice the size of Hag Seed!  My dad was apalled that I was listening to an audiobook on CD instead of through a streaming service.  He made me feel like an old person!  I love audiobooks on CD though.  They make my car ride extra special, when it’s usually extra pain in the assy.

I liked the characters in this book, I liked the story, and I liked how everything aligned with The Tempest.  I hadn’t been familiar with the play prior to listening to this book.  The last track on the last disk explains the story of The Tempest.  It was so closely followed in the book, while still seeming super organic and believable.  I would absolutely suggest this book to people who like Ms. Margaret.  I’m continuing on my Atwood journey, and loving every minute!

I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too! View kfishgirl's reviews»
