Don’t tell him I got it half price

October 7, 2017 by octothorp Leave a Comment

Joel McHale is on the freebies list along with Bret McKenzie and Donald Glover; when he came to a local comedy festival I was 112% in,  and was in no way disappointed. I liked him before, but after he made several consecutive pyramid scheme jokes with the local royalty behind Amway IN ATTENDANCE, I can say it blossomed into love.  It was a thing of beauty; like the rake gag from The Simpsons it started funny, got tedious, then cycled back to hilarity again. I remain in awe, and wish I had purchased my signed copy of his book at full price in order to have been present for said autograph, instead of finding it in a discount bin at Barnes and Noble.

Anyway, I heartily recommend this book; if you’re even remotely intrigued by it, you’re gonna enjoy it. It’s exactly what you’d expect from McHale’s comedic persona, the tongue in cheek smug guy. If you’ve seen Community or watched The Soup (not Talk Soup, as McHale repeatedly reminds the reader), you know what you’re getting here, but who’s complaining about that? I laughed out loud plenty, especially in the sections with corporate sponsored photos from McHale’s childhood and his gallery of celebrity book covers.

Now to wait for Donald Glover and Bret McKenzie to come out with a book.
