Let’s figure out why everyone keeps drowning themselves

I have to admit that I really love my title.  It’s so conversational, and at the same time kinda shocking.  Anyway, now that I’ve complimented myself, on to the book.  I think it might be more like 3.5 stars, but that’s not an option unfortunately.

This book took me a while to read.  Sometimes books take longer for me to read than others through no fault of their own, but due to my reading circumstances.  A Kindle book is always going to go faster than an actual hardcover book.  I read on my Kindle in bed every night.  I frequently read actual books at work during lunch, but not every day.  So this book took longer than it probably should have to read.  I think it was a combo of it being an actual book, and the story being sort of convoluted.  I liked the ending, and it was very believable, but I feel like the middle was a little muddled.  That sounds like a vocal exercise: The middle was a little muddled.  Say it with the class!  It’s Friday, and my brain is melting, so please excuse my madness.

I guess if I had to pick a main character, it’d be the river.  There are a lot of women who drowned in the river by their own hands or with some help from another.  The pooled up section of the river where multiple women have drowned is called (aptly) the drowning pool.  At one point one of the characters says something along the lines of “the drowning pool is a place to get rid of troublesome women.”  This story travels back and forth in time, which I usually like, but I think there are just a touch too many time periods and characters.  It was almost too complicated for no reason.  Anyway, I did like it, but not as much as I expected to!
