The show iZombie is a lot of fun, and the comic is also fun, but different than the show that took its name. Volume one of the comic introduced us to the world of Gwen, the zombie protagonist who has to eat brains to survive. Luckily, she works as a grave digger and has easier access than most to the gray matter goods. Gwen is friends with a 1960s ghost and a nerdy were-terrier (like a werewolf, but cuter). 
In volume 2, Gwen takes a back seat at times and Ellie (1960s ghost) and Scott (were-terrier) both get some time to shine with standalone issues fleshing out more of their respective backstories. While Rose McIver’s Liv Moore on the tv show has charisma for days, the comic’s Gwen is a little less exciting as a protagonist. Therefore, it’s nice to have the interesting side characters flesh out the world (so to speak). Ellie is so likable and tragic as the optimistic yet lonely ghost who never got to see much of the world. Scott the were-terrier is endearing for his puppy-dog-like nature, and you feel for him when you learn more of his backstory. The world is also built out as the reader learn more about the local vampires and the mysterious monster-fighting group on their trail.
I enjoyed this trade but did not love it. It took me several days to get through the relatively short volume. The highlight of the book is definitely the worldbuilding. The lowlight for me was Gwen’s story. The art remains mod and fun.
