I seriously can’t decide which book in this trilogy is my favorite. I love them all.

December 30, 2017 by narfna 2 Comments

I’m so into this author right now, and I’m so upset she has only published three books so far. I want her next book right frickin now. (Out in two weeks, already pre-ordered.)

This is the last book in the Turner series, and it’s just as good as the first two. We met our heroes last book. Julian Medlock is the brother of Eleanor Standish, Lawrence’s science friend, and Lord Courtenay his son’s uncle. Courtenay is the titular rake, an infamous scapegrace who has spent his entire adult life indulging in whatever pleasures came his way and never taking any pains to hide it. But now, with the publication of a novel that seems to be based on his exploits, Lawrence has decided it’s best for Courtenay not to see his nephew until the scandal has passed. This is chewing up Courtenay inside, as Simon is the only true family he has left, and he loves him very much.

Enter Julian, proper and respectable member of society. Eleanor and Courtenay struck up an unlikely friendship after they met last book, so she asks her brother to befriend Courtenay, at least publically, and lend him some respectability and he’ll be allowed to see Simon again. Image rehab, if you will (Julian would have made an excellent PR rep.) It’s a prickly partnership on both ends. Courtenay thinks Julian is a stuck-up dullard, and Julian, well, Julian thinks Courtney is the most beautiful man he’s ever seen but knows he can never have him, so he spends most of his time shoving his feelings way down deep, reinforcing the stuck-up image. But of course that doesn’t last long . . .

Courtenay and Julian had such good chemistry, and both of them ended up not being who I expected, both to me and to each other. Frankly, they turned out to be so adorable it made me a little giddy. Literally my only complaint about this book is that I wish it was longer. I would have liked a little more of them falling for each other, and maybe a little more build-up to the climax, which was resolved pretty quickly and easily. Basically she could have milked it a little more.

Seriously, if you like romance, especially historicals, check this author out. She’s killing it.
