A beautifully written thriller

January 16, 2018 by KB 3 Comments

How can a suspenseful thriller be written so beautifully it is almost poetic, you ask? Well here is your answer. Jane Harper has written a book where the descriptions of the Australian outback are absolutely beautifully described.  There were a number of times whilst reading this book that I needed to stop and spend a moment or two appreciating the beauty of the writing.

As for the story itself, superb.  A great suspense mystery that constantly had me trying to guess what might have occurred. From the recent tragedy to the one that occurred 30 years ago. The characters were well established with depth and mystery.  Interactions were authentic and true to the Australian way.

I enjoyed this book a lot, and I don’t want to give too much away, but I was very impressed with the ending with the author taking the time and effort to create something that perfectly finished the book off.  I enjoyed the mystery and being drip fed tidbits of information to put the history together. I liked the cloud of confusion that existed for a majority of the book, with the feelings of finally unravelling the mystery only to realise that there is always more to the story.

This was a book that I couldn’t put down. I strongly recommend and am giving it 5 stars due to a great plot, a decent ending, well rounded characters and beautiful descriptions. An easy read that will constantly have you guessing and re-evaluating what you thought you knew.
