Best Audiobook of the Year (Yes, it is only February, don’t care!)

February 5, 2018 by Beth Ellen 5 Comments

How can I have already listened to the best audiobook of the year? It’s only the beginning of February! But I have. It’s that good. Go listen. I didn’t even know much about Mr. Noah going in besides that he hosts the Daily Show, was from South Africa, and does stand up. Doesn’t matter, he tells you all you need to know.

So when I told Mr. Beth Ellen what I was listening to his response was, “he’s too young to write a memoir”. And that’s kind of how I felt when I saw Mr. Noah was first publishing a book. He’s my age, how can he have a memoir? Well, he can and it’s phenomenal. Mr. Noah weaves tales of his childhood together with more charm and honesty than I could ever imagine possible. He’s a master storyteller in the best possible way. Told in a somewhat linear fashion Mr. Noah talks of growing up mixed race during apartheid, what happened as it ended, domestic abuse, and just childhood in general.

Noah manages to tell some harrowing stories, and yet they’re all told with a level of honesty and charm mixed that you results in your just wanting to be best friends with him. Also when he does his mother’s and grandmother’s voices you just want to go find those women and give them hugs for raising him.

This is all to say go listen to it. Around 54,000 people have given it a 4.9 star rating on audible for a reason. It really is THAT good.

You won’t regret it! This is the book that I’m going to suggest all year when folks ask what I’ve read recently that’s good. Well this and The Hate U Give. Soooo good.
