Her real mom was probably a hippie

Let me just start out by saying that I liked this book.  It wasn’t as murdery as the books I usually read, but I still liked it!  I think it was one my Kindle Singles from who knows when.  I usually just download them and forget that I got them, so it was probably last year some time!  Anyway, let’s get on with the review…

The main character (Hannah) is heading back home to help take care of her mom who has Alzheimer’s.  She’s having a hard time dealing, because her mom keeps telling her that she’s not her daughter.  Because Hannah has always been different than her two sisters, she’s always felt like she didn’t belong, so this new interaction with her mother is really getting to her.

Hannah’s going through old paperwork at her mom’s house, where she’s staying while taking care of her mom (who is in a nursing home btw – sorry, important detail!), and she finds some ancient bloodwork of her mothers.  She notices that her mom’s blood type looks wrong.  She talks to the nursing home, and they do a confirmatory test, and it’s right.  It looks like Hannah’s mom isn’t her mom.

This of course comes as a shock to Hannah, and she starts digging.  She heads to California to try and find the truth, because that’s where her parents lived prior to Iowa (Illinois?  Indiana?  The Midwest for sure).  She finds some people who were around at the time, makes friends with some locals, and drinks some alcohol.

Like I said at the beginning, I liked this book.  I think it’s a 3.5 stars, but that’s unfortunately not an option!
