Who wouldn’t be excited to be invited to an exclusive party by one of the most popular people? And she said keep it a secret…so they did, from all their friends and families. Unfortunately, almost as soon as they arrive they find themselves facing peril–bad weather, power outages, no reception and oh…everyone is slowly getting murdered one by one. Some of them are friends, some are strangers to one another, what connection do they have? Why are they being murdered and which one of the them is the murderer?
I saw this on BookBub the other day and I also saw that it was going to be made into a movie and it thought, “this is right up my alley” because it is. I love a good teen slasher story. And here’s the plain truth, there is absolutely NOTHING revolutionary about this story. In fact, I believe in 5th grade I read about 8 Christopher Pike books with almost the identical plot line–and that’s ok, because it worked as a whodunit and it has a couple of carefully placed red herrings that it kept me interesting. I figured out who the murderer was but I think simply because of the “Christopher Pike Formula”. If you want something mindless, and you’re not ashamed to admit that you can’t remember who all the characters are (there’s not enough character development, that’s the truth…I didn’t care that these people were dying, because I had no idea who they were I only knew their names), this isn’t a bad choice. It reminded me very much of both Ten Little Indians/And Then There Were None as well as Identity. I would definitely be interested in reading more of McNeil’s work because she keeps the plot taught and
