Livia continues to be scary

May 24, 2018 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Livia gets a visit from a man in Homeland Security who is kinda offering her a job.  But because she is who she is, she can’t just say yes, even though she wants to.  She talks him into letting her go to Asia for a little recon before she will accept.  Livia wants to see if she can finish what she started in the first book, which is basically torturing and murdering everyone involved with her and her sister’s sex trafficking.  She also thinks that he’s got another motive to wanting her on his team, ulterior or otherwise.

She accidentally meets up with someone else who has similar goals.  They’re hesitant at first, but then they realize that they’re better together, and they can actually accomplish their goals.  There are some really bad guys in this book, and Livia and Dox basically try to vanquish them all.

I liked the interaction between Livia and Dox.  She’s obviously very damaged, but he just accepts that and treats her with kindness and compassion.  She’s not sure how to take that, but she trusts him for it.  They are together for much of the second half of the book, and I had mixed feelings about how I wanted them to end up.  I liked the idea of her having someone who understood her that she could share her life with, but I also didn’t need her to end up with a man.  And obviously neither did she.  She’s fiercely independent.

After Livia gets back to the US, she declines the job, and the Homeland Security guy reveals his motive.  It’s a little scary, but also kinda sweet?  There are a lot of characters in this book that aren’t your regular heroes, but they definitely perform heroic acts that most people couldn’t handle.  I wish there was at least one more book!  I want to know what Livia has to live for after all of this!

I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too! View kfishgirl's reviews»
