The kids are all right

May 24, 2018 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

So this is book 2 of the Darkest Minds trilogy.  We saw at the end of the first book that Ruby went back to the Children’s League to protect Liam and to save Chubs’ life.  She’s joined a team, and they go on missions and ops and try to fight against the president. Ruby actually does learn a lot from her training.  She becomes a better fighter, and she’s learning how to better control her powers.  However, they’re basically making her torture people for information in between operations.

Ruby makes friends with her team, and they learn to trust each other.  She also meets up with Liam’s older brother Cole, who is an agent / officer in the Children’s League.  She likes him almost immediately because of how much he reminds her of Liam.  He sends her on a semi-secret op to find Liam and get back a jump drive with the cure to to IAAAN on it.  Of course things go wonky, and she ends up meeting back up with the old gang.

Chubs has become a bounty hunter, just to survive, and to muddy the waters of tips on where Liam and Ruby are.  They find each other again, and it’s almost like no time has past.  They also find a bad dude claiming to be the Skip Kid.  Sorry, Slip Kid.  Ruby eventually gets the better of him because he underestimates her.  They meet a Red kid, and he’s super super damaged.  Then they find Liam.  Since Ruby erased his memory, she’s not expecting him to know her, but we learn that she couldn’t erase his feelings, so he’s really confused when he’s around her.

Anyway, a lot more goes on here, but you’ll have to read about it.  I liked the first book better, because there were a lot of things going on in this one, and I’m not sure they were all needed.  I’d give it 3.5 stars.

I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too! View kfishgirl's reviews»
