Come see the glory of Vermont!

August 8, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

It is fitting that my 300th book be set in my home state of Vermont. And since Vermont is so awesome, I am reviewing three books! Trust me, no single book can hold all our greatness!

And due to the nature of each book, it does take three books to live up to the glory of my state. These three board books are meant as tourist mementos of your trip for your toddler and not an in-depth look at the state.

Night-Night Vermont by Katherine Sully has a few things you will not see in just any children’s book such as it mentions the Catamounts (not the animal but the mascot of the University of Vermont). Yet, it is still a fairly cliched look at the state. The other two, Hello Vermont by Martha Day Zschock and Good Night Vermont by Michael J. Tougias are delightful but also cliched looks at what Vermont is: pretty foliage, skiing and snowboarding, picking apples, hiking, biking and nothing but fun.

Sure, we have all of that, but we are a lot more. Therefore, it gave me a chuckle when one mentions saying goodnight to some of our retail areas and show the variety of the state such as the state capital building.

With that said all three of these books have great illustrations and really are nice books. Being a native Woodchuck I am protective of my home.  With all that said, I do like these books mostly because of the variety of their illustrations. Helen Poole (Night-Night Vermont), Cooper Kelly (Good Night Vermont) and Zschock do a fun job of bringing the text and state, to life.
