FRAMED FOR MURDER!!! (Yawn)

September 12, 2018 by Melina Leave a Comment

The Guilty Wife was an okay book.

That’s where I’d like to leave this review, but I guess that’s against the rules.  The Guilty Wife, like all books labeled a “psychological thriller” post Gone Girl attempts to be sly and have at least one (possibly two or three) twists.  And quite frankly?  I’m sick of the twists…especially when you can see the big old twist a mile away down the road.  I teach a fiction writing course and I always tell the kids that there’s nothing wrong with telling a straight forward, honest story…but nope, there’s almost always a twist and almost always, the story would be better for it had there not been.

Here’s a little run down of the plot.  Bethany Reston is a married woman…apparently happily married (?) except that she’s having an affair with her billionaire boss and she’s completely in love with him.  One problem, he’s also happily (?) married.  Then billionaire Callum Bradley is murdered and it’s clear that Bethany is being framed for that murder.  Instead of oh, I don’t know…turning over the threatening notes before they disappear and the incriminating murder weapon that appeared in her home to the police, she becomes a wanted woman.  Will the greatest husband in literary history, Jason stand by her side as she faces life in prison for killing her lover?  Will her best friend, lawyer extraordinaire, Alex, be able to help her in any way?  The only way you’ll find out is if you read this book.  But YAWN…there are better books out there, wait until Lifetime turns this into a movie…which they might’ve already done.

As a four time participant and the time Cannonball Read failure, I stand before you ready to kick ass, read books and somehow keep my children clean and sign their homework books daily (well that's never going to happen, so let's hope I can at least read 52 books this year). Teacher of 160 seniors, mom of 3 kids/ two dogs, and wife to one pretty great husband. I need a nap and some Calgon (substitute Calgon with rum) so that I can rinse and repeat this insanity on a daily basis. View Melina's reviews»
