Disappointing

 

Hmmm, it pains me to say it, but I was not a fan of this book at all. This is hard to write, as I have loved every other one of Liane’s books. This book had a lot of great components, such as the build up – 9 strangers away for a week at a health retreat where things are done ‘differently.’ Fabulous back story to each of the characters involved, where more and more of the characters’ histories are revealed at a great pace. The relationships between the characters also develop in a very engaging way. The director of the health retreat is also shrouded in mystery with bits and pieces being revealed in a manner that 2questions whether it is on purpose or accidental.

However about half way through the book, there is a bit of a turn (not quite a twist) which I felt was a big waste. There was potential for some great plots and use of the characters, but I felt the ‘secret’ of the health retreat was cheap and wrong on many levels. Had this ‘secret’ been some other sort of catalyst I wouldn’t have been left with a bitter taste in my mouth. Even how the characters progressed with this catalyst was great, but it was the catalyst itself that spoilt the book for me.

Apologies for being cryptic, but I don’t want to spoil the book for anyone who is still interested in reading it. I give this book 3 stars. Should easily have been 5, but the catalyst spoilt it for me.
