Sunshine in book form

October 18, 2018 by kittenkong42 1 Comment

Lin-Manuel Miranda is human sunshine, this is just a basic fact of life. And if you follow him on twitter (as you should do) then you’ll be aware of his tradition of greeting everyone with a morning tweet and wishing them farewell at night. Over time this simple little greetings grew and grew to become a part of the day that made people feel better about themselves and the world, helped you cope on a bad day, or just made things seem a little brighter. The bookends of the day would match to provide a balance of “You can do this” to “Yay, you did it! Now relax”.

This book was an almost inevitable consequence being a collation of these messages with added illustrations by the fabulous Jonny Sun (author of Everyone’s a Aliebn When Ur a Aliebn Too: A Book)). I got this book on Tuesday, read the introductory poem by Lin and even that made me feel emotional. I then read the whole thing over lunch yesterday (it’s not big) and loved it so much that I just want to buy people hardback copies for Christmas and hand it over by going “Here, read this! It will make you feel like there is some good out there and people care”. I’ll definitely keep popping back in to this to read specific days when they fit my mood or feelings, and I’m also tempted to buy the audiobook too because it’s read by Lin and what could be better than that?

You really need to read the physical copy of this book, or if reading an ebook version hold it in landscape so you can see two pages at once. This way you’ll see both the Gmorning and the Gnight message at the same time and equally importantly get the full effect of Jonny’s illustration for the day.

Just buy this, you won’t regret the decision. And if you need some additional motivation to do so then here’s a link to the introductory poem with the audio version too.
