Just what I needed

November 14, 2018 by FyreHaar 2 Comments

Y’all, it’s been a motherfucker of a year. I need comfort and this book is it.

Rebekah Weatherspoon is at the top of my must-buy list. She writes fun, satisfying romance with diversity of race, body type, sexuality, gender, it’s an intersectional love fest with her and I am here for it.

In Rafe we have, well, Rafe! The Buff Male Nanny. He’s red headed, bearded, tattooed, and his masculinity is non-toxic. He’s just left his latest nanny gig when then family he works for relocates to Australia and he’s not sure he wants to be a nanny anymore.

Our heroine is Sloan Copeland. A massively talented thoracic surgeon (graduates high school at like 9 years old, like that talented). She is divorced with twin six year old mixed race daughters. She loses her nanny and needs someone to step in while she is working and her kids are starting kindergarten. A friend refers Rafe and we are off to the races.

Rafe and Sloan are instantly attracted to each other but they both know that you can’t just jump into bed with your employer/employee, especially when there are children and a douchebag ex involved. Instead of just bottling it up and pining, they both pull on their grown up pants and get it out in the open (in more ways than one, bu-dum ching!).

Sloan and Rafe are awesome.  They have doubts and reservations and work it out, together, through open and honest conversation. When shit goes down, and it goes down, they team up. The whole book is a lesson in trusting yourself, rolling with the punches, and allowing yourself to want what you want.

As a newly single mom to a six year old girl, it hit me really close to home. Working full time, trying to be all things to all people, fuckign exhausted. I don’t know if there is a tall, handsome, tattooed person out there who can step up and be dedicated to me and my kid, but it’s nice to see someone like me get hers.

-A+  Comforting like drinking hot chocolate while cuddled in a blanket watching the rain fall.

Rebekah Weatherspoon is awesome on Twitter, which I discovered before I decamped from Twitter, basically. Anyway, she is, but I’ve never read one of her books! I should check this one out.
