“Where did I go wrong in life?” Everywhere, Chelsea. Everywhere.

November 7, 2018 by crystalclear 3 Comments

Right off the bat, I don’t like this. I wouldn’t have chosen it but for the fact it was the only book I could get other than Wicked, and I read that a while ago.  And we start with a seven-year-old busting into her parents bedroom to photograph them having sex, based off a bet by her older sister?  A seven-year-old who practices swearing and is proud of the fact. Nope.

I don’t know how much of this is based on truth and how much is pure fiction, but if it’s remotely true, Chelsea sounds like a shit person, and I would hate her.  There’s being funny and being a decent person, and she does not appear to be either.

The more I read, the more I dislike her as a person.  I hope she’s making most of this up. She’s rude and nasty and immature and crass and mean and a pain in the ass.  Some people might think this is funny, but I just think it’s disgusting and sad. This was written in 2005, and it has not aged well.  In an age where people are trying to be more accepting and inclusive, this is just distasteful and disappointing.

This is just bad.  It’s not even funny.  Maybe if some of the stories were intermixed with her being a decent person, it would be better.  But she makes bad call after bad call. Are we supposed to feel bad for her? Sympathize with her?  I just feel bad for all of the men she’s using and abusing, if only in text form. If any of those men read this, most of them would be appalled at how they’re portrayed.  I don’t know if she’s trying to portray men like women are often portrayed by men in some sort of reverse stereotype, but I’m not buying it. Nor am I going to finish reading it.  Because it’s garbage.  As is my opinion of Chelsea Handler.

(Wait, how was this a NY Times bestseller?!?)

This fulfills the CBR10 Bingo square of “Alabama Pink”

Your “bad” tag is making me giggle.

      I’m similarly enjoying “negative stars”.

There was just so much bad. If I had, for some reason, owned it, we would have ceremonially burned it for its sins.
