Such a lovely surprise on a cold and snowy day

December 15, 2018 by Malin 2 Comments

Last Saturday, I woke up feeling a bit out of sorts. By the afternoon, it became clear why – I was coming down with a doozy of a cold. By Sunday, I was feeling pretty wretched, my head was fuzzy, my throat was sore, my nose was constantly dripping and I felt completely wrung out. Sadly, I could not just call in sick and stay in bed fighting this thing – the end of term English test for my students was on Monday and Tuesday (preparation day on Monday, actual essay writing on Tuesday). I had to tough it out and go to work both days, which is probably why the cold just kept on getting worse. I spent much of Wednesday and Thursday in bed, trying to sleep the lurghy off, while my husband manfully shouldered the parenting duties for our ever more demanding (and mobile) ten month old more or less by his lonesome. On Friday, I forced myself to go to work again (the work Christmas dinner was in the evening, and I’m not missing out on a fancy dinner just because of a sniffle – can’t go to the fun dinner if you haven’t been to work, that would be cheating). I got home to find a pick-up slip in the post, but too late to do anything but wait. By yesterday evening, it was clear that both my husband and my baby have caught my nasty cold. This afternoon bundled my now sniffly and coughing baby into his snow suit, put him in the stroller (where he is cocooned in a lovely downy sleeping bag every time we venture outside) and braved the -10 degrees (Celcius, Google tells me this is 14 degrees Fahrenheit), wind and snow to pick the parcel up.

The contents made my whole week, but my generous benefactor had not included their name with the bounty. However, after cross-posting on social media, I now know that I have Llp to thank for my geeky socks, awesome Wonder Woman Funko and very exciting looking book with nerdy knitting patterns. It’s always good to have a new excuse to buy more yarn.
