I had been looking forward to this novel since I read the first reviews several months ago and it did not disappoint. What a fantastic debut!
The novel opens with Korede getting a phone call from her sister. Her boyfriend is dead, and she needs help cleaning up. And it’s not the first time Korede has gotten this kind of call from her younger sister Ayoola.
This novel is fun, dark and a very quick and enjoyable read. It’s the story of an older sister who is maybe a little bitter but who nevertheless would do anything to protect her younger sister. Korede is responsible, serious, dedicated to her job as a nurse in a big hospital. She’s also not beautiful and she has always known it. Ayoola is carefree, full of life, messy and gorgeous. And she has a habit of killing her boyfriends.

What a perfect title for the review. There has been so much effusive talk around this one, but I just don’t know if I want to dig into a book where one of the characters is a serial killer. Is it gory at all?
I didn’t think it was gory at all. There’s a passage where they clean some blood and carry a corpse but it’s just so darkly funny and nonsensical. It’s a very light and fun read imho, despite you know, the serial killer thing.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this but I probably shouldn’t have been as an older sister who has contemplated what she would do if something like this occurred with her younger sister…
