Mostly Likely you’ll love this book if you give it a try

A coworker asked me if Tomorrow Most Likely was as cute as it is supposed to me. I said, “Weeeellll… My logic is taking over.”

How do you explain that maybe you will not have met Cousin Todd today? Or the sky is not blue today? After all the text of Dave Eggers makes it seem like it will happen. But then I thought, that this is a good discussion book. He does say “most likely” and when you do not meet a squirrel named Sid or touch a funky bug, you can talk about what you did do. Plus, you can (and here is where I finally went) just enjoy this sweet story.

The story is simple: a boy goes about his day with rhyming text about what wonderful things he will “most likely” see. Hints of other artists pop up in the illustrations (mostly I got an Ezra Jack Keats vibe, as well as a Christopher Myers contemporary feel, but other artists seem to be there, too).

I am thinking this will be a fantastic graduation gift. Possibly a baby shower gift. Even birthday or bridal shower gift for an adult. It has something about it that is not really for kids, yet is perfect for kids, but also perfect for adults, too. And of course, Lane Smith’s illustrations are a delight, but slightly different from what you might have expected (this is not The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs).  And a stronger early reader (at least first, possible into second grade) could do this as a solo reading.

After finishing, I started to reread it as I knew I had missed some things. Not only did I miss actual pages (stuck together) but there as a lot with the illustrations I had missed. Even the text had a lot more than I realized at first read. This is one of those books you need to experience to really know how you feel about it.
