Possible Heresy Alert

September 10, 2017 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I have a confession: I have deliberately avoided reading A Game of Thrones and the following books. When the series first got big, I picked up A Game of Thrones, the first of the Song of Ice and Fire series, and flipped through it, but it didn’t really grab me.  I don’t have HBO and I’ve not followed the tv show, for similar reasons and the additional facts that I don’t especially enjoy watching graphic violence or sex, or soap opera type dramas. This was […]

We are all Sansa Stark….and I probably went too far in my Cannonball

It is, perhaps, fitting that it’s taken me so long to finish these books (and write this review). I started reading A Game of Thrones at the end of June (and started this review on the 28th), and I’m sitting here well over a month later. I’ve read a couple other books in that time – but I’ve mostly been working my way through this series. It’s taken me longer to read these four/five books (4,300+ pages) than it did to read Harry Potter (4,000+ pages) […]

I just finished this book last Friday and instead of adding it to my ever growing stack of books to be reviewed, I thought I move it up in my queue because of today’s finale of Game Of Thrones season 6. The World of Ice and Fire contains information about the novel series, however. Martin’s co-authors, Elio M. Garcia and Linda Antonsson, are the people behind the fan-site Westeros.org; they even advise Martin on lore when he becomes stuck. He actually approached them about the […]

Fourth verse, same as the first.

I feel like this review is going to be virtually identical to what I’ve already written for the first three volumes in the series. So let’s just break it down to its component parts: 1. Daniel Abraham has done a fantastic job as an adapter of this series. Everything is clear and exciting and he gets all the most important bits in. 2. Tommy Patterson is a competent artist but I absolutely do not like his style. 3. I hate the way all the faces […]
