My First Ever DNF featuring Paul, Mary, Mel, and Sue <3

December 3, 2018 by tillie 1 Comment

American on Purpose opens with a chapter on the white house correspondents dinner which I read just after reading this article. It made it feel a bit sour in my mouth. I bought this book, because, despite my rather lukewarm rating for Between the Bridge and the River, I did think it showed potential and people here were raging about how this biography was really good. I persevered through it, somewhat, but it was honestly a slog. It is mainly written for Americans, and there […]

Why Don’t We Wear More Kilts?

August 25, 2015 by ModernLove 2 Comments

A few months ago, I saw that Craig Ferguson was performing at my local fancy music hall and, on a whim, got a couple of tickets to go check it out. I’m not really a late night person, mostly because I tend to be in bed by 10PM and have little motivation to watch late night shows the day after they air. But, if given the choice, Ferguson would have been my go-to while he was on. I found his sense of humor engaging, his […]

A really entertaining audio book

February 21, 2015 by Malin 4 Comments

Before I bought and listened to this audio book, which came to my attention thanks to fellow Cannonballer Narfna‘s enthusiastic review, this is what I knew about Craig Ferguson: 1. Until very recently, he hosted the Late, Late Show, where he always seemed to be genuinely interested in the guests in the few clips that I’ve seen. 2. He really likes Doctor Who 3. He used to be in a band with Peter Capaldi, who is currently playing Doctor Who. 4. He’s voiced a number […]

“Scottish by birth, American on purpose.”

February 18, 2015 by narfna 20 Comments

This is the best celebrity memoir I’ve ever read. Now, I’m probably biased because I went into this already loving Craig Ferguson from watching him on The Late Late Show, but he did in his book everything that a book like this should do. He was funny, sincere, and his honesty is that of the ‘warts and all’ persuasion. In fact, showing those warts is the whole point of the book, which he opens by stating, concerning his son, “He will know from an early […]
