Episode 1-30: The Kids Aren’t Alright

August 13, 2018 by prisco Leave a Comment

https://killingmykindle.com/2018/08/13/episode-1-30-the-kids-arent-alright/ Wherein I review: 116. Marlena by Julie Buntin 117. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty 118. The Money Shot (Teddy Fay #2) by Stuart Woods Kids are the f–king worst!  Marlena reads like an AA confessional, part ghost story, that really has no third act.  Big Little Lies gave me the chance to read a novel that has been turned into a television show where I know one of the actors.  Weird, but fun, especially since the original is Australian, so now I’m picturing […]

Big Suspense, Big Time Fun, Little Criticism

August 8, 2017 by ardaigle Leave a Comment

It has been a bit since I was absolutely OBSESSED with a story, and finding out whodunnit, but Big Little Lies captured me from head to toe. I went into the novel knowing of the successful HBO miniseries and seeing trailers with competitive women jogging on the beach, and I wasn’t sure it was my cup of tea but I listened to the bajillion ladies I know who said, “OMG READ THIS BOOK” and they were all correct. Firstly, and importantly, I did this on […]

The slow, almost hypnotic pace of the direction by Jean-Marc Vallée in producer and writer David E. Kelley’s adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s book eased viewers into the complicated lives of the mothers of first graders in an affluent suburb of Monterey, California. I quickly scooped up the book and was not disappointed by its southern Australian setting. The characters are the same: the charismatic, rapid-fire and funny Maddie, […]

Pirriwee Public School holds a killer Trivia Night Fundraiser

March 31, 2017 by Gracey the Giant 4 Comments

Prior to reading Big Little Lies, I had never read a Liane Moriarty novel before.  But, I have to say, it was pretty good.  It was a quick, engaging read but not empty fluff like quick reads can often be. I will say though that after the first chapter, I was worried that it was going to be empty fluff.  I mean, the name of the school is Pirriwee Public School and while I know elementary schools are often given twee names, that’s an awfully twee […]
