Dreams of more Laini Taylor to read

May 13, 2014 by alwaysanswerb 2 Comments

Though not really reflected in my earlier (rather superficial, in retrospect) review, I have had a whirlwind of emotions with this series. I wrote said prior review as one piece for both of the preceding novels, Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Days of Blood and Starlight probably to avoid spoilers but also because I read them literally back-to-back: I finished Smoke and Bone and began Blood and Starlight with the same breath. As such, it became difficult to separate them for the purposes of thematic or ‘first impression’ review […]

Angels and demons, trying to find common ground in the face of near-impossible odds

April 25, 2014 by Malin 4 Comments

This is the third and concluding volume in a trilogy. I’m not sure I can actually review it without spoiling some of the previous books, so if you haven’t read them, skip this for now. Do check out the previous two books, though, as they are YA fantasy at its best. Book 1, Daughter of Smoke and Bone is reviewed here, and book 2, Days of Blood and Starlight is here. I can also heartily recommend the companion novella Night of Cake and Puppets for those who have read the first […]

A Fitting Conclusion to An Amazing Trilogy

April 9, 2014 by Jen K 4 Comments

This is actually book 41 for me, but I’m several reviews behind.  But this book was so good, and I want to post about it, so I’m going to go ahead and post here, and then post it to my blog when I’m actually caught up because I want to keep things in order over there.  I try not to reveal too much, but spoilers for earlier parts of the series. I pre-ordered this book back in January, so when I got home on yesterday, […]

Review of Words and Stuff

January 10, 2014 by Marc 1 Comment

Some spoilers for Daughter of Smoke and Bone shall be included in this review, as this is the second book of a trilogy.  I know, I know: a young adult story split into three parts.  Who comes up with these nutty ideas? Nonetheless, in any three act story, you must spend the first act establishing your characters, their motivations, and set the wheels in motion for all that is to follow.  In the third act you (ideally) bring character arcs to a dramatically satisfying conclusion as well […]
