Long Book is Long

January 8, 2018 by NoNeinNyet Leave a Comment

This book covers the longest period of time in all of the Outlander books to date and it was noticeable. Despite going on many side adventures all over North Carolina, the Frasers et al are largely based on their land at Fraser’s Ridge in both this book and the one that proceeded it, The Fiery Cross. Because so much time has been spent on the Ridge, a lot of time is spent with its various inhabitants. They’re often not treated as on-going concerns with true throughlines throughout the […]

Seven novellas, all are good, two are excellent.

This might be one of my absolute favorites from the series. It’s a very long book, and like all of the others it’s probably longer than it needs to be, but I love it anyway. There’s a lot of people just barely missing each other and little misunderstandings that blow up into crazy situations. You know, that sort of nonsense that rarely happens in real life but seems to work in historical romance novels. So this book picks up in the Americas, where Jamie and […]

Gabaldon, I love you, but I have notes on this one

March 13, 2017 by badkittyuno 8 Comments

*Contains spoilers for the first 3 books (including this one!) and TV seasons! “Are some people destined for a great fate, or to do great things? Or is it only that they’re born somehow with that great passion — and if they find themselves in the right circumstances, then things happen? It’s the sort of thing you wonder…” So, Voyager has always been one of my least favorite entries in the series (please note that I still gave it 4 stars, because…Outlander). Part of the problem […]
