This was a fun way to spend several hours, but I actually think I would have liked it better if I had never read Pride and Prejudice. If you’re not aware, Heartstone is debut author Elle Katharine White’s retelling of the Jane Austen classic (a top ten book for me), but with dragons (and such). I want to be clear that I find nothing wrong with this book at all. It’s a cleverly told story that takes the frame of its source material and transforms […]
An epic romance sizzles during an Odyssey quest to save the realms
Breath of Fire is the second book in Amanda Bouchet’s Kingmaker Chronicles series. This novel picks up moments after the end of book one with our heroine, Catalia Fisa, healing from deadly wounds. But I have to say, I believe that possibly above all other romance sub-genres, I categorically enjoy fantasy/paranormal series that follow one couple and continue along a larger arc. I’m talking the “Fever” series, or the “Kate Daniels” series, and “Wraith Kings” certainly qualifies as well. I appreciate these longer takes for a lot of reasons: they frequently get to tease out the sexual tension over a longer period of […]
