I Have to Scale a Tower Naked? Where Do I Put My Sword?

The Mermaid’s Madness by Jim C. Hines (2009) – Okay, I broke a few of my self-imposed reading rules when I picked up this book, and I’m glad I did.  I don’t usually select a book that’s in the middle of a series, and I tend to skip “reworked” fairy tales when I want to read fantasy.  As usual, rules are meant to be broken, and I totally enjoyed this book loosely based on the original Little Mermaid. Revisionary – Magic Ex Libris: Book Four by Jim C. Hines (2016) – Okay, I’m finally reviewing something written in this century and my first five star review of the year.  In these real-life days of politics, loss of rights, and impending war, it’s nice to slip into a nice urban fantasy about…politics, loss of rights, and impending war?  Of course, the real world doesn’t have people who can perform magic and pull practical items out of books to use in the worldwide fight against […]

Danielle Whiteshore, popularly known as Cinderella, is having some trouble adjusting to life as a royal, having been treated no better than a slave by her vicious stepmother and stepsisters until her sudden elevation in status upon marriage to Prince Armand. Even though they were nothing but awful to her, she still feels bad […]

The last Magic Ex Libris book doesn’t disappoint.

January 24, 2016 by narfna 2 Comments

NB: I received a free review copy of this book but that has not affected the content of my review. Maybe you will understand just how much fun I think this series is if I tell you that I quite literally sent an email to Mr. Hines’s publicist begging her for a review copy, when I learned there were a few available. I was a bit nervous once it arrived though; in the unlikely event I didn’t like the book, I would be stuck with […]
