So there’s a scene in this book that has stuck with me for years, ever since I first read it as a kid. Tobias is in human morph, sitting in a trap he very much knows is there, with an enemy watching, waiting for him to slip up, and he gets some unbelievably unexpected news. The only thing that saves him is that he’s so unused to being a human anymore, he doesn’t really make facial expressions. His face is perfectly blank when his world […]
Kicking off CBR10 by re-reading a childhood favorite.
I still need to go back and write my review of the David trilogy (the previous three books in this series, which make up an informal trilogy), which didn’t get posted in 2017 alas and alack, but I wanted to make sure and get this review out before I start my next book of 2018. Once again, it seems, I’m starting out the year with an Animorphs Chronicles book, which are hands down my favorite books of the series. These books are honestly one of […]
This book seriously messed with me as a kid.
I have misremembered or forgotten entire books and plotlines from this series, something which I’ve discovered over and over again in this re-read of mine. But I did not forget this book. This book I remembered very clearly. It made a HUGE impression on me as a kid. This is the one where Cassie quits the Animorphs because she’s finding herself willing to do more and more horrible things in the name of defeating the Yeerks, and she doesn’t want to become that person. She […]
Animorphs twofer: One very silly, one very not.
Apparently instant oatmeal (maple ginger instant oatmeal, to be precise) is like Yeerk heroin, so the Animorphs decide to run a mission down to the Yeerk pool, and see how many Yeerks they can get addicted to it (a process which eventually drives them mad). Man, just typing it out like that makes me feel like their whole plan was super fucked up, and the fact that no one really put up more than a token resistance to it is NOT a good sign for […]
