“I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that it takes a huge amount of fake blood to keep a Halloween theme park running.”

I could not have been more excited about the release of Two Can Keep a Secret. Karen McManus** — who has been such an amazing supporter of the Cannonball Read — currently has TWO books on the NYTimes bestsellers list, which is phenomenal. So many of us read — and loved — her debut novel, One of Us is Lyinglast year, and its been great to see that book is still attracting new readers and new fans. I can’t believe how much I liked this novel!  I also was surprised that some of themes addressed in The Dirty Girls Social Club overlapped with this novel since two characters in this novel have similar issues to two characters from my previous read.  Then again, both novels have what could be considered stock characters but imbued them with enough life and personality to make them feel original and interesting so it shouldn’t be that big of a surprise. Another discovery I can blame on […]

Teen Angst Kills

April 27, 2018 by Rachie3879 Leave a Comment

Karen M. McManus’ One of Us Is Lying is often described as a blend of Gossip Girl or Pretty Little Liars and The Breakfast Club. Five high school seniors walk into detention one afternoon and by the end of the day, one of them is dead. When it turns out the death was a homicide, naturally the other four students are suspects. When we discover the victim ran a nasty gossip app that was about to reveal dirty secrets on the other four kids in […]
