It’s a little weird reading comics after so many years. I used to be an avid collector and dreamt of being an artist one day, until I figured out that I could get more entertainment for less money by reading novels. So I haven’t really read many comics in about 20 years. But I do miss the art. The art here by Adrian Alphona and David Lopez is pretty great, though very different, stylistically. Alphona is looser, less compact, which is actually perfect for the […]
Great for Kamala, not so great for Carol.
I will admit I was prepared to dislike this. I read a couple of reviews that gave the plot away, and it made me angry and nervous (more on this below). I shouldn’t have *really* worried. As she did with that whole Secret Wars mess, G. Willow Wilson manages to write an event tie-in story (in this case, Civil War II) but still keep it readable for people like myself who aren’t planning on reading the rest of it, and to simultaneously keep the story […]
Kamala survived Secret Wars and is now just as awesome as before.
How does this series continue to be SO GOOD. It is the only superhero comic I read that doesn’t allow the larger events of the Marvel (or whatever other comics) universe to completely mess with the narrative it’s trying to tell. I never feel discombobulated when I’m reading about her, even if I’ve missed issues where she’s popped in to other superheroes stories, or there’s been some sort of crossover event, like Secret Wars/Battleworld. No idea how that mess all got […]
In which Kamala meets Wolverine and gets a giant teleporting dog
Kamala Khan has gotten better at juggling her life as a teenage girl with her secret identity as Ms. Marvel. She shoulders her responsibilities as well she can, even when being inundated both in school and in the media that her generation of teens are really just parasites on society, draining it of precious resources and brainlessly just existing in a multi-media reality, without ever giving anything back or asking necessary and critical questions. She geeks out adorably when given a chance to team up […]
