A little too timely

January 12, 2019 by thewheelbarrow 1 Comment

I picked up this book to be a small break from my all the Steinbeck I’ve been reading lately.  I like to alternate a little between fiction and non-fiction.  Within the non-fiction, I like to mix it up between professional reading and just interesting.  Usually, there is some overlap and I think that applies here.  Also, one of the authors, P.W. Singer is coming to speak at my school next week and I wanted to read it before he arrived.  I read an earlier book […]

In October 2017 I went to the Episodic conference, where Jon Ronson was one of the featured speakers. He was scheduled to go on just after the lunch break, and I was slightly late getting back in, which turned out not to be a problem, because instead of actually being at the conference, he was Skyping in to be interviewed by the moderator, Anna Higgs and the connection wasn’t working. They’re never what I want them to be. They’re always unsatisfying. Having read a non-fiction humor book by Latidan (and having loved it) and being aware of her hilarious online presence, I was expecting way more. What I got was a half-baked novel about a new mom who isn’t coping with her life and has […]

Everyone’s Life Looks Great on Instagram

March 3, 2017 by Melina 3 Comments

Autumn likes to like stuff on the Internet (who doesn’t?)…and she soon becomes obsessed with one particular family–the McMullins.  She likes them for several reasons: 1. Daphne McMullin is the perfect mother. 2.  The McMullins in general, are the perfect family and 3. Daphne McMullin adopted Autumn’s baby girl at birth in a closed adoption.  Autumn “stays in” her daughter’s life by following Daphne on social media as a lurker.  She memorizes everything about them and is just absolutely thrilled that a woman like Daphne […]
