https://killingmykindle.com/2018/08/08/episode-1-29-what-the-fuck-did-i-just-read/ Wherein I review: 111. A Highly Unlikely Scenario, or a Neetsa Pizza Employee’s Guide to Saving the World by Rachel Cantor 112. Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan 113. The Fold by Peter Clines 114. High-Rise by J.G. Ballard 115. Turbulence (Stone Barrington #46) by Stuart Woods Sometimes your little brain needs to get fried.  This was a combo platter of what the f–kery.  I enjoyed Robin Sloan’s wonderous cult of personality, and Peter Clines’ Lost-esque pseudo-sequel to 14.  Didn’t so much love […]

But there are a handful of books that really stand out, and they aren’t always the best, despite the […]

Fun sci-fi thriller up until it goes off the rails.

For about the first 75% of this book, I was totally on board. It was thrillery. It was sciencey. It was sciencey-thrillery. There was banter, and mystery, and some stealthy nerd references. There was a hero with an eidetic memory, and some scientists acting super secretive. There was an escalating problem and some freaky-deaky shenanigans involving folding space. And then it all got kind of weird and sort of imploded on itself. The basic plot of The Fold is your standard sci-fi thriller. Hero is […]

Well, this is it! Book number 26. With this one I reached the Half Cannonball and met my goal!! I’d like to thank everyone for believing a small town boy from Indiana could finish such a daunting task! Dreams really do come true, Grams! Thanks of course go to Peanut, Lady Shoes, Dirty Carl, Rosie, Earl, Teresa “Butterscotch” Allen, Baby Shoes, and Mr. Medicine! We did it! And of course I can’t forget, GWAR! It’s been a heck of a ride, guys, I couldn’t have […]
