Two books to wrap up my CBR9

December 26, 2017 by ingres77 Leave a Comment

So my CBR9 didn’t go quite as planned. I took on a lot of extra work for my job, which cut down on my reading, and was sick for a pretty large chunk of the year, so I’m not going to really come close to the double cannonball I had planned. Still, what amounts to basically a one-and-a-half cannonball is nothing to sneeze at. The Passage by Justin Cronin (4 stars) I’m having trouble wrapping my head around the apparent fact that “only” 10 reviews […]

The Passage by Justin Cronin

Okay, But I Have Questions

So, this series apparently got a lot of hype when the first book, The Passage, first came out.  I was, presumably, living under a rock at the time, and so hadn’t heard of it.  In fact, I didn’t really hear about the series until the final book came out, at which point I decided to read them all. And, well, the first half of the first book was great, the second half was good. The second book was okay, verging on bad and the third book was […]

Inside this gigantic book that I sort of liked was a fascinating novella that I loved.

This year marks my sixth Cannonball, and yet, somehow, this is the only book in The Passage trilogy that I’ve reviewed. I’m not quite sure how that happened, but I imagine it can be blamed on babies and whatnot. I loved the first book, The Passage. I thought it was exciting and original, and I was name dropping Justin Cronin left and right. He was going to be the next Stephen King, and this trilogy was going to be his version of The Stand. You […]

You are entering the Red Zone. Proceed at own risk. When in doubt, run.

I consider myself very lucky that I discovered Justin Cronin’s “The Passage” series only last summer, so the wait for City of Mirrors was much less painful and dramatic than it would have been if I’d been reading in real time: The Passage was published in 2010 and The Twelve in 2012. City of Mirrors came out four weeks ago. That’s not on a George R. R. Martin level, but still could have been a brutal wait for me. Whew! I love this series. I […]
