Trading Places for New Adults

February 9, 2017 by Classic 10 Comments

I read this for Romance Book Bingo: Interracial couple square.  I feel really bad about this, but Courtney Milan’s foray into New Adult Contemporary is not my jam. I almost DNFed this book a couple of times while reading. The two protagonists were not compelling or believable as a couple. The main plot about two 20 year old college students trading lives for a couple of weeks was all over the place. I think the amount of sub-plots also hindered the overall story too. Tina […]

When I reviewed Anna and the French Kiss I mentioned that while I would consider that book New Adult, I still had a tough time being invested in the romantic life of high school seniors. College, fine, that works for me. So when I reviewed the Contemporary/New Adult The Year We Fell Down I had no trouble with the age of the characters or believing their life in college. And then I followed the advice of my fellow Cannonballers and read her Brothers Sinister series — and I really liked them. Milan was a good writer who really appreciated history and strong women. This year, the buzz was all about Milan’s entry into the contemporary, New Adult genre, and her […]

Courtney Milan romances are the best kind of romances

June 3, 2015 by yesknopemaybe 17 Comments

Full disclosure, I am a huge Courtney Milan fangirl. She is simply the best at writing fun, swoony, smart romances. So when I found out she was writing something modern, I had to get my hands on it. She did not disappoint! In some ways, I actually liked this modern story better than her historical romances. Trade Me alternates viewpoints between billionaire Blake Reynolds and overworked Tina Chen. Tina is just trying to make it through college so she can get a good job and […]
